Mouse IL-31
IL31 is a cytokine involved in skin immunity and the regulation of immune responses, particularly in relation to myeloid cells.
Key Roles:
- Receptor Activation: IL31 exerts its effects by binding to a heterodimeric receptor composed of IL31RA and OSMR, activating signaling pathways such as STAT3, and possibly STAT1 and STAT5.
- Skin Immunity: It plays a role in skin-related immune responses, contributing to the pathophysiology of conditions like allergic dermatitis.
- Myeloid Cell Survival: IL31 enhances the survival of myeloid progenitor cells in vitro, indicating a role in hematopoiesis and immune cell maintenance.
- Gene Expression in Macrophages: It induces the expression of proteins such as RETNLA (resistin-like molecule alpha) and serum amyloid A in macrophages, which are involved in inflammatory responses.
IL31 is significant in modulating immune functions, especially in skin and myeloid cell contexts.
